Cookie policy
Last updated 14 August 2026
This policy explains what this website stores on your device, including the optional advertising cookies we use with your permission.
You choose whether we use marketing cookies. We use a small preference record to remember your choice. If you accept marketing cookies, Meta Pixel may also use cookies and similar technologies to measure our ads and help us reach people likely to be interested in Out There: Together.
What a cookie is
A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep, so it can recognise your device on a later visit. Similar technologies such as local storage do the same job in a different way. Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, storing or reading these on your device usually requires your consent.
Analytics without cookies
We use Metricool to understand, in aggregate, how many people visit the site and which pages they read. It works differently from most analytics tools: rather than tagging your device and following it around, it records a single page view at the moment you load the page.
That record contains:
- the address of the page you loaded;
- the size of your browser window;
- your IP address, which every website receives when you connect to it;
- your browser's user agent string, which describes your browser and operating system.
Because nothing is written to or read from your device, the consent rules that apply to cookies do not apply here. Your IP address is still personal data, so we explain in our privacy policy why we use it and what your rights are. We rely on our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used, and you can object at any time.
If you would rather not be counted at all, most browsers offer a Do Not Track setting or content blocking, and blocking tracker.metricool.com will stop it entirely. Nothing on this site depends on it.
Marketing cookies: Meta Pixel
We use Meta Pixel, provided by Meta, for advertising measurement. It is optional. It only loads after you select Accept marketing cookies in our cookie notice.
When enabled, Meta Pixel records that a page was viewed and may read or set cookies and similar identifiers on your device. Meta uses this information to measure whether our Facebook or Instagram ads led to visits to our site, improve ad delivery, and allow us to reach people who may be interested in the app. Depending on your browser and whether you use Meta products, Meta may link this activity with information it already holds about you.
Meta controls the specific cookies and how long they last. They may include identifiers such as _fbp. See Meta's Cookie Policy for its current details, including duration.
Your choice
You can accept or reject marketing cookies when you first visit. Rejecting them does not affect access to the website. To change your choice later, use Cookie settings or clear this website's storage in your browser and visit again. If you have already accepted, changing your choice stops future Meta Pixel activity on this site; you can also manage or delete cookies through your browser and your Meta account settings.
The Out There app
This policy covers the website. The Out There mobile app is a separate piece of software and does not use cookies. It does store data on your phone, because it is built to keep working at sea when there is no connection:
| What is stored | Why |
|---|---|
| Your sign-in session | So you are not asked to sign in every time you open the app. |
| A local copy of your sailings, crews, chats and day plans | So the app works when the ship has no usable connection. |
| A queue of messages and changes waiting to send | So nothing you write is lost while you are offline. |
All of this is strictly necessary to provide the service you have asked for. Signing out or deleting the app removes it from your device.
Third parties
We use Google Fonts for typefaces and Metricool as described above. With your marketing-cookie consent, we also use Meta Pixel. We do not embed social media widgets.
When you click through to a booking partner you leave this site. What that partner stores on your device is governed by their cookie policy, not ours.
If this changes
If we introduce any additional cookies or similar technologies that are not strictly necessary, we will ask for your consent before they are set and update this page first.
