Some of the links in Out There earn us a commission. This page explains which ones, what that pays for, and why it does not change what you are shown or what you pay.
The short version. Out There is free to use. When you book something after following one of our links, the company selling it may pay us a commission. You never pay more because of it, and no partner can pay to be ranked higher.
How Out There makes money
Out There is free for members and we intend to keep it that way. We are an introducer, not a travel agent. We do not take payments, hold deposits or confirm bookings. When you are ready to book, we hand you over to the company actually selling it.
If you go on to book, that company may pay us a commission. That is what pays for building and running the app.
Which links earn us a commission
- Booking a cruise. When you tap through to a cruise line or an authorised seller, we record that the click happened so the referral can be credited to us.
- Things to do in port. Tours and activities shown against a port of call come from Viator, a Tripadvisor company. If you book one after tapping through, Viator pays us a commission.
What it does not affect
What you pay. The price is the same as going direct. The commission comes out of the seller's margin, not your pocket.
What we show you. We rank tours by traveller rating and the number of reviews behind that rating, never by what earns us the most. Every port is treated the same way.
Where we show nothing. If a port has nothing worth recommending, we show nothing rather than filling the space. Some ports are private islands owned by the cruise line, where everything ashore is sold by the ship, and some days are spent at sea. You will not see a tours section on those at all.
No paid placement
We do not sell placement. No partner can buy a position on a port page, a sailing page or anywhere else in Out There, and none of our partners has any say in what we show or in what order.
Who we work with
At the moment: Viator for tours and activities, and cruise lines and their authorised sellers for sailings. We will update this page if that changes.
Your data
Tapping an affiliate link does not send a partner any personal information about you. The link identifies Out There, not you. Once you arrive on the partner's website you are dealing with them under their privacy policy, and they may set their own cookies. Our privacy policy explains what we record when you click through and why.
